The Glen Angus

In 2003 The Glen commenced breeding registered Angus cattle with the purchase of 120 APR females from Mitta Valley Angus in North East Victoria, 120 HBR and APR females from Landfall Angus in Tasmania, and 20 females from Tibooburra Angus in the Yarra Valley, Southern Victoria. Natural service and AI sires have been selected from leading Angus seedstock breeding programs in NSW, Vic, WA & Tasmania.

The Glen’s breeding program has a strong focus on fertility, structural soundness, growth and carcase merit. Only those heifers which fall pregnant during compressed mating periods and pass scrutiny for growth, structure and temperament are retained for breeding. The Glen herd and annual calf drop has been performance recorded on Angus Breedplan since 2003.

Tuwharetoa A249, sire of the 2011 Melbourne Royal Carcase Show Reserve Champion Export Steer and Reserve Champion Carcase. Both steers were exhibited by Yanco Agricultural College. A249 has left a line of cows with outstanding fleshing, structure and fertility.
The Glen Eclipse D249, ranked 1st for Carcase Weight, Carcase Value & Tenderness, 3rd for Carcase Eye Muscle Area and 4th for MSA Index in Cohort 1 of the Angus Australia Sire Benchmark Program. His progeny retained at The Glen are well muscled and display plenty of frame and volume.
Rennylea Ambassador F857. This sire has made an enormous contribution to The Glen’s breeding program and is still in use today, at 8 years of age. Ranked 1st in Cohort 3 of the Sire Benchmark Program for Tenderness, 3rd for MSA Marbling & MSA Index and 4th for Carcase Intra Muscular Fat. Ambassador F857 is also ranked in the top 1% of the Angus Breed for Carcase Weight, the Grainfed Market Index, Intramuscular Fat percentage and Days to Calving. Many of the females retained by this sire are producing outstanding calves at The Glen.
Cudgegong Park Grange G4. A low Birthweight, Frame 7 sire, ranked 1st for MSA Ossification and 3rd for MSA Index in Cohort 4 of the Sire Benchmark Program. Grange has left a line of very sound, functional females in The Glen herd.
Tuwharetoa D81 is a Frame 7 sire, ranked 1st for Carcase Weight, 3rd for Carcase Eye Muscle Area and 4th for MSA Ossification in Cohort 5 of the Sire Benchmark Program. D81 has left a line of very sound, feminine cows in The Glen herd. They are impressive for their length, volume and sound structure.
